Sony announces another high-end projection TV in their expensive Qualia line.
The Sony Qualia 006 (KDS-70CQ006) is a 70 inch projection TV with a HD resolution of 1,920x1080 pixels. The new high-end projection TV uses Sony's SXRD technology. SXRD stands for Silicon X-tal Reflective Display. SXRD was first introduced in the Sony Qualia 004 projector.
The SXRD Projection Screen delivers a 3000:1 contrast ratio and a superior resolution due to the very small size of the pixels and the high density.
The Sony Qualia 006 will start selling in Japan on March 15th for 1,600,000 yen (~15,000USD).
More details in Sony press-release (Japanese).
Sony announced in September 2004 a Grand Wega KDS70XBR100 Projection TV with SXRD technology. The KDS70XBR100 has pretty much the same specifications as the Qualia 006. The KDS70XBR100 Grand WEGA HDTV is supposed to be available early this year for under $10,000.
