Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announces movie releases for the Sony PSP with release date of mid April.
Sony announced to release XXX, Hellboy, Resident Evil 2 and Once Upon a Time in Mexico on Sony PSP UMD discs. More UMD movies to come each month after April. The movie Spiderman 2 will be bundled as UMD disc in the Sony PSP release in the US.

No pricing is set yet, but unless there is a UMD rental service establishing itself pretty fast I do not necessarily like the idea of potentially paying twice for a movie disc. The only way to play a MP4 movie on the Sony PSP is to store it on a Sony Memory Stick Duo. The largest Memory Stick Duo on sale has 1GB capacity - not much for a digital movie. I wonder if Sony will offer UMD burners to consumers. There is some movement by Sony on opening the UMD format.
