Reviewer: Ken Wold

We reported about the PoGo! EZPower TV Remote Control, which does not need batteries when it came out earlier this year. Ken Wold got his hands on it to see if it is any good. Gadget model Krista was also allowed to touch the remote.

The PoGo! EZ Power Universal TV remote sells for $24.99 at the PoGo! online store.

Overview
Are you as sick of the seemingly never-ending, ever-growing gluttony of electronics remote controls you can never seem to find or the quickly dying batteries inside them? Then join me and send all those controllers to the scrap heap (er, ah, ahem, environmentally safe disposal please). You only need one of these push button wonders and PoGo managed to do it very well. Did I say I despised battery power too? Someday, someone, somewhere will give us those nuclear powered, encapsulated power providers for all of our hungry devices we use and last forever. Until such time, the EZPower remote control gives you that freedom and allows you to quit running to the local store every five minutes to replace dead “juicers” for all of those remotes you have. You know what I’m talking about and you have to be a certified genius to operate most of them since many have poorly designed buttons and not used anyway. Hey, take a look; I’ve got 27 remotes in our house and I feel like I’m lab rat in a maze when I need to find one of them. Then, the batteries die and, now, you have to find the instructions with the original codes listed for the equipment it belongs to reprogram it and the “hunt” starts all over again along with the proverbial trip to the store to spend a fortune on those “juicers” to start the whole process once more. Why do we do it? Creatures of habit, we are.

Couple turns on The Jog Shuttle once a week keeps the remote going without batteries.

Well, after this monotonous routine and my hard earned cash flowing quickly through the electrical contacts; I had enough and found this nice little all-encompassing device. Pick it up, lightweight, follow the clear instructions with virtually every device IR code to “sync” it and, voila, I performed my limited math calculations and reduced my remote junkyard by 27 to one. Sure, you can buy a nice digital all-in-one remote control pad, but get ready to lighten your pockets by several hundred dollars AND, yes, buy batteries, again, for that. And you have to be a mechanical engineer to operate it too. With the EZPower remote, you even gain a little exercise by simply turning the hand crank charger a few revolutions about once each week and your remote lasts equally as long. I figured out the rate of replacement battery cost on all those “old” remotes I have (had) and I just saved about $200 each year. Thanks PoGo!

All the usual buttons found on universal remotes are available.

The remote control buttons and finger crank (built-in dynamo generator) are laid out very well with cable, tv, dvd, vcr, aux (auxiliary), satellite easy touch buttons. It also contains all the standard buttons you are accustomed to: volume, channel selector, power, menu, channel buttons, sleep mode, PIP, position, freeze (pause), swap, play, rewind, information and guide. Before using the remote, use the crank and wind it about 50 times (there’s that exercise benefit too) and it is very easy to turn.

Conclusion
Don’t you just love technology! And, look, even gadget model Krista is smiling broadly as she is ecstatic, too, having just one simple remote that practically lasts forever. All for about $25 and don’t forget to tally up the savings as I did. Enjoy!
