Toshiba introduced in 2003 the ApriAlpha robot. Toshiba will show a new robot called ApriAttenda at the World Expo in Aichi.
The ApriAttenda (shown in photo in the back) social partner robot can distinguish particular voices from among many from multiple directions, and recognize the direction of origin, and interact with the speakers by responding to a repertoire of commands. Additionally the robot can recognize a registered individual and follow that individual from place to place, even among groups of people.
The ApriAttenda is 900mm tall and weighs 30kg.
