Siemens actually Sells Mobile Business to BenQ

Yesterday the reports indicated that Siemens will partner with BenQ and create a joint-venture after the Sony Ericsson model. Today Siemens released a statement that BenQ is actually buying the Siemens Mobile Business unit.

I just saw a press-conference of the Siemens Mobile workers' council and they are obviously not happy about Siemens getting rid of them. It is about 6,000 Siemens employees who will be working for BenQ starting this September.

BenQ also bought the Siemens Trademark for Mobile phones for 5 years. So future Siemens phones are actually BenQ phones. I assume BenQ will mostly market the Siemens brand in Europe and its BenQ brand in all other markets.
If BenQ is able to turn things around, then this is a great move for the fast growing company.
More details in this Siemens press-release.
