If you are a heavy PS3 user like we are at my house and you are still trying to use the PS3 controller to input text you need to read this review. Today we are taking a look at the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard, a wireless PS3 keyboard with track pad. Read the full review to see how well it performs.
Features & Specifications
With the online enabled functions of the PS3 like web surfing and instant messaging the PS3 is really hurting for a keyboard. You can use the normal controller and the onscreen keyboard to input text and information, but it is a slow and unwieldy process to say the least.
Logitech has a keyboard designed for the PS3 called the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard. Looking and feeling just like one of Logitech’s computer keyboards, the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard has great typing feel and full sized keys.
The wireless receiver uses 2.4GHz technology for clear connection to the PS3 from across the room. Logitech says the Mediaboard is good for up to 30 feet of distance between it and the receiver. An integrated touchpad with vertical scrolling makes navigation through the Playstation Store and webpage’s much more enjoyable and easier. Power for the Mediaboard is via a pair of AA batteries.
Logitech Cordless Mediaboard in Use
Connecting the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard to my PS3 required nothing more than plugging the included wireless receiver into the PS3. The keyboard was immediately recognized and was ready to work. The improvement in how easy it is to manage network settings and profiles with a keyboard is immeasurable making a process that took the better part of an hour take no more than 20 minutes.
If you are a big chat user on your PS3, the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard is simply a required accessory. The touchpad works just like the ones we are used to on notebook computers. Drag your finger across it to move the cursor and click the two buttons under the trackpad to choose options.
Connectivity during my testing was great, I could connect easily from 20 feet away and the WiFi, microwave and other sources of possible interference had no effect on the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard’s performance. Typing feel is very good with nice clicky keys that offer good tactile feedback. The keyboard is slim enough to make storage easy as well and long enough for comfortable on lap typing. Pricing for the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard is $79.99, a bit expensive but for heavy chat or internet users that price is more than justified.
Pros
Cons
Verdict
If you chat on your PS3 or surf the web on it enough to justify the nearly $80 the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard sells for this is a great accessory for your PS3. If you only seldom surf the web or chat via your PS3 the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard is not for you. Performance for the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard is top notch.
