Update:
Robot Cars Finish DARPA Grand Challenge 2005
The first autonomous vehicles are supposed to be on the course in Nevada as the start time is 4:30am PST.
The DARPA Grand Challenge site promises web casts from the race of robotic cars. The coverage has not started yet though. (Update, the Coverage has started.)
The event takes place at Primm Mountains, Nevada. 20 vehicles are supposed to start today. They had already qualify themselves over the last days.
DARPA got smarter this time, and improved the selection process to make the event not a disaster like last time.
I have my bets on the Stanford VW Touareg.Update:
The race coverage has started. The course is 131.7 miles long. DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 Program Manager Ron Kurjanowicz says GPS will not be enough as guidance to complete the course.
Visit the DARPA Grand Challenge site for the current status of the robots in the race.
