Features & Specifications
The Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV has built-in analog NTSC, digital ATSC and Clear-QAM tuners. The screen size is 19-inches diagonal and the set uses a 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1440x900 screen resolution. The brightness is 300 cd/m2 and the contrast ratio is 800:1. The panels typical response time is 5ms gray-to-gray, making it acceptable for gaming.

The onboard sound is MTS with SAP and the set supports closed captioning and has a V-chip. The Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV supports 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions. Inputs include HDMI, composite, S-video and component. The TV can be used as a PC display via an analog D-sub connector. The built-in speakers have a total of 6 watts of power and a S/PDIF digital output is included.

Video Games, Movies and PC Use
For testing, I connected the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV to my digital HD cable box via HDMI for TV watching and to my PS3 via HDMI for gaming and movie playback. The image quality was good on upscaled standard definition DVDs from my PS3. The movie Transformers had good picture quality with sharp, rich colors and accurate skin tones.

The small set showed a little pixilation in transitional areas between dark and light colors, but definitely not bad enough to cause viewing issues. Watching HD TV programming was great on the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV. The set lacks the brightness and contrast of larger HDTVs that I have reviewed in the past, but overall image quality was impressive for such a small TV.

Gaming on the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV was good, the response time is fast enough that not ghosting or tearing of images on screen was noticed. The on-board sound system has low power and lacks bass. The speakers provide passable sound, but lack the bass I like in my movies and games.

Computer users can connect their PCs to the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV and use it as a LCD PC monitor as well through a VGA D-sub. Since many computers use the DVI output for graphics exclusively, some users will need an adapter to connect to the TV. If you connect other HD sources via the component inputs, you can also opt for a DVI to HDMI cable for connecting your PC. The native resolution of 1440x900 matches the resolution of most dedicated 19-inch computer displays, with the added benefit of being able to watch TV thanks to the built-in tuners.

The multi-function nature of the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV makes it perfect for small areas like an office or dorm room where space is at a premium and several devices would normally be needed for PC and TV use.

Verdict

Conclusion

Pros

  • Good picture quality
  • Works as a PC display

Cons

  • Speakers lack bass

Verdict
If you need a do it all LCD display that can do it all from Pc use to watching the big game, the Envision L19W661 19-inch LCD TV is a great option. This HDTV is perfect for kid’s rooms, dorm rooms and small offices where a Pc display is needed and the ability to watch TV as well. Image quality is good and the only real issue with this set is the lack of bass from the internal speakers.
