HandHeld Entertainment announces a new WiFi ZVUE Portable Media Player.
The new WiFi ZVUE (Model 500) will feature a 3.5 inch LCD screen with 320x240px resolution in a landscape format that supports videos at 30 frames per second (fps).
The new WiFi ZVUE also features a minimum of 1GB of on-board Flash memory, both Compact Flash and secure digital/multimedia card slots (SD/MMC), a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and is compatible with Windows Media Video (WMV) and Windows Media Audio (WMA) through the use of Microsoft's secure Digital Rights Management (DRM) software.
The new ZVUE will measure approximately 3.5 x 5.5 x 0.5 inches (height/width/depth).
The new model 400 ZVUE has only 512MB on-board storage and no WiFi.
The new WiFi ZVUE are supposed to start shipping in Q2 2006 for less than $300.
The new ZVUE PMPs could be a hit with customers. The $300 price point is to high. I think the price should be less than a Sony PSP. It is good to see Handheld Entainment to be able to take the next step after they got established with their low-cost ZVUE player.
