Toshiba to Buy Westinghouse

Toshiba won the bid for Westinghouse and is entering final negotiations.

This is actually about Westinghouse Nuclear, and not about the Westinghouse consumer electronics (site) business. Westinghouse Nuclear (site) is currently owned by British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL). Toshiba has offered $5 billion for Westinghouse. It is unclear to me if both businesses belong together. Toshiba's statement refers to just Westinghouse, but stresses the Nuclear business. Nuclear Power is again a hot topic in Europe. France wants to expand it. In Germany they are struggling to keep the decision to exit Nuclear power. What bothers me most, besides the danger of nuclear plant meltdowns, is actually that there is no solution for nuclear waste. More details on the Sierra Club site.
