Sony announced the pricing for the upcoming Blu-ray disc movies.
Sony introduced the Blu-ray Disc Movie Titles for 2006 at the CES 2006 a couple of weeks ago. New Blu-ray disc movie titles will have a wholesale price of $23.45, about 20% higher than that of DVDs. Old movies released on Blu-ray have a wholesale price tag of $17.95. Amazon.com lists the 1987 released movie Chronos as first Blu-ray Disc title. They charge $22.49 for it.
A Reuters report mentions that the first Blu-ray discs are to be expected early summer. This would be contracting original comments by Sony at the CES calling for a March release of the first Blu-ray movies. Amazon.com also lists March 14th as release date for Chronos. I am not sure what the correct information is here.
Now we just need a Blu-ray disc player to play those HD movies. Amazon.com listed the first Sony Blu-ray Disc Player, but has no shipping date yet.
Sony is also bringing DVD UMD combo packs of selected movies like The Grudge, Resident Evil or Underworld. The price of those DVD UMD combos is supposed to be $28.95
