Silicon Valley start-up Rapport Incorporated shows a low power consumption CPU design with 1,025 cores dubbed Kilocore.
1,024 cores are 8-bit processors, while one is a PowerPC core.
The design has about 10x higher processing speeds and lower power consumption as current CPUs on the market.
Rapport Incorporated is collaborating with IBM on the production and design of the Kilocore.
The Kilocore can be used for various processing intensive applications like video and gaming, but also supercomputing. The Kilocore CPU was introduced at the Embedded Systems Conference site currently taking place in San Jose, CA. More details on the Rapport Incorporated site. See also the NY Times.
