German Spiegel magazine published an interview (in English) with the Microsoft Xbox European manager Chris Lewis. Mr. Lewis compares Blu-ray with the failed Betamax (It is way to early to call), but what is more interesting are his answers in regards to HD DVD for the Xbox 360.
Microsoft will reveal some more details about the external HD DVD at the E3 2006. Current floating around rumors say it might just sell for $100 in September. That price would be a coup.
Because the Xbox 360 does not have an HDMI interface there is an issue watching copy protected movies. In the Spiegel Interview Mr. Lewis says that Xbox 360 users will be able to watch HD DVD movies. So somewhere a HDMI interface has to magically appear...
Also kind of fun is Mr. Lewis answer to the question of how many Xbox 360 have been sold world-wide: "By the end of June we will have sold between 4.5 and 5.5 million units worldwide." Wishful thinking or reality?
