Pricing for Radeon HD 5970 Leaks Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Pricing for the upcoming AMD 5970 video card has been leaked online early, thanks to a posting from ZipZoomfly. The video card brings back the very expensive high-end video card range with a price of $599.99.

Some specs leaked a while back on the card. We know it will have 1GB of RAM for each of the GPUs on the board. We also know that the early samples were huge at 13.5-inches long. The card also requires an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector. Read more

NXP Unveils Cheap Cortex-MO MCU for 8/16-bit Apps Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review NXP has unveiled its latest ARM Cortex-MO based LPC1100 micro controller family. NXP claims that the new microcontroller is the cheapest solution on the market for a 32-bit MCU. The MCI promises 45 DMIPS of performance compared to the sub-DMIP performance of typical 8-bit MCUs and 3-5 DMIPS for 16-bit MCUs.

The device also uses less energy with the promised performance delivered at 50MHz and the MCU needs under 10mA of power to operate. NXP also claims that the new MCU needs 40 to 50% less code for most common microcontroller tasks. Read more

AMD Opteron Powers Most Powerful Supercomputer in the World Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review AMD has announced that their powerful six-core Opteron processors are now being used inside the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Jaguar supercomputer. Jaguar has recently been upgraded with the new six-core Opteron CPUs.

The newly updated supercomputer is capable of 2.3 petaflops/s theoretical peak performance and 1.75 petaflops/s performance on the Linpack benchmark. AMD Opteron CPUs are used inside four of the top five supercomputers. Read more

The new line of SSDs are aimed at netbooks and other PATA using electronic devices.

The Garbage collection function is built-in at the hardware level inside the drive. The feature allows the drive to rearrange itself during idle time. This lets the drive prevent files from being fragmented and slowing the performance. Read more

AMD is looking to grow its market share and to do that the company needs some powerful and exciting CPUs. The company has teased its 2010 and 2011 CPU line ups and the most interesting of the new parts is codenamed Bulldozer.

Bulldozer is said to be a major revision for desktops and notebooks that makes the machines much more multithread efficient and will be optimized for pairing with graphics chipsets. A Bobcat variant will be tailored to ultraportables. The first Bobcat part expected is called Zambezi and will sport 8-cores for high-end desktops. Read more
