Intel plans to defend Patents against AMD

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Intel Corp said on Tuesday it has "serious questions"
about a deal announced by Advanced Micro Devices to spin off its manufacturing
business and focus on chip design, and is ready to defend its patents.
Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said that AMD and Intel have a patent
cross-licensing agreement under which AMD pays royalties to Intel.

Oracle buys Primavera Software

Oracle announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Primavera Software, Inc., a leading provider of Project Portfolio Management (PPM) solutions for project-intensive industries. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the second half of 2008. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently.

CBS wins weeklong Ratings Race

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In the second week of the broadcast season,
CBS replaced ABC as the top network thanks to a strong lineup of competitive
performers.
CBS won the week in both total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demographic,
while ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was once again the most-watched show.

VeriSign sells Jamba Stake to News Corp

NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp has taken full ownership of mobile content
provider Jamba by buying VeriSign Inc's 49 percent stake for about $200 million,
the two companies said on Tuesday.
Jamba makes content such as wallpapers, ringtones and games for mobile phones.
It also offers short episodes -- called "mobisodes" -- of some Fox TV series,
including "24," "Prison Break" and "Bones," for phones.

X-Files Star David Duchovny leaves Sex Rehab

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor David Duchovny, who plays a womanizing novelist on
the cable television series "Californication," has completed a rehabilitation
program for sex addiction, his attorney said on Monday.
Duchovny, former star of the "X-Files" films and TV series, is married to
actress Tea Leoni and they have two children.

In recent days some U.S. media have focused on a "silent run" on the deposits of
Wachovia bank, which is now being taken over, after a bailout plan stalled and
its rival Washington Mutual was seized.
Commentators including Nouriel Roubini, Professor of Economics at New York
University's Stern School of Business, have highlighted the scope for quiet
withdrawals by depositors whose assets exceed guaranteed levels.

Oscar's new Documentary Rules become hot Topic

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A controversy is brewing over a change to
Oscar's feature documentary rules.
Because of the change -- which required a one-week qualifying run in New York by
August 31 -- one of the year's most buzzed-about documentaries, the Israeli
animated film "Waltz With Bashir," won't be eligible for consideration. A host
of executives and festival veterans are calling on the Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences to revise the rule.

AMD hives off Factories in bid to fight Intel

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices said on Tuesday it
will hive off its pricey manufacturing plants, get a cash injection and shrink
its debt to compete harder against bigger rival Intel for market share.
Two Abu Dahabi state-owned venture capital companies are backing the move. One
will put up at least $5.7 billion into the spun off factories and the other will
buy more than $300 million in AMD stock and warrants.

U.S. Actors Union Leader confident on Strike Vote

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Screen Actors Guild leaders said on Monday they are
confident union members will support authorizing a strike against major
Hollywood studios if the issue is put to a vote, despite a faltering U.S.
economy.
Seeking to break a three-month-old deadlock in contract talks with the studios,
SAG negotiators last week urged the union's national governing board to call for
a strike authorization from union rank and file.
The board is set to decide the matter at its next meeting on October 18, the
first since a dissident faction of moderates made pivotal gains in union
elections last month.
