A little reticule will pop up to let you know exactly where you selected to focus. The autofocusing mode works on pictures and while taking video. From what we can see, the iPhone 2009 is much better at capturing fine detail than its predecessor, which should make taking readable pictures of text (or barcodes) finally possible.
