As reported yesterday Sony introduced a new PSP console at the E3 2007.

The new PSP has the model number PSP-2000 and does not have a new name. When Nintendo introduced the DS follow-up console they called it DS lite.
The new PSP is 33% lighter and 19% slimmer than the original version. The original PSP weighs 280g and the new one only 189g.
The thickness of the new PSP is 18.6mm, where as the original PSP measures 23mm.
The three new features are the TV Out, the improved load time of UMD games and the ability to charge the PSP via USB ports of PCs or PS3 consoles.
The UMD game load time improvement is achieved through temporarily storing game data from UMD. This means the initial load time will stay the same, only during game play the reloads should be quicker.

The new PSP comes in three basic colors of Piano Black, Ceramic White and Ice Silver. The new PSP will be available in September in Japan, North America and Europe.

Sony will offer three special PSP packs:
The limited-edition Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, will be available on September 10th and will contain a PSP in Ice Silver, Daxter game, Family Guy - The Freakin’ Sweet Collection on UMD and 1GB memory stick.

The limited-release Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, available on October 9th contains a Ceramic White PSP featuring a silk-screened image of Darth Vader on the back of the unit and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron game.

Both PSP Entertainment packs will sell for $199. See hi-res photos of the new PSP and Entertainment Packs.
