Another of the cool games on display at E3 this year was Crysis from Crytek. Crysis is a FPS title with graphics that will leave PC gamers with the hardware to run the DirectX 10 version of the game at full tilt drooling.

Crysis has already garnered lots of attention and is one of the most anticipated game titles due out this year. No specific release date was offered when I asked when we could buy it. However, it would be very surprising if the game didn’t show up for Christmas.

Interestingly, one of the PR types in the EA booth at Barker hangar showing Crysis off and I talked a bit about Vista and the problems that still plague some gamers, myself included, with Vista running NVIDIA graphics cards. I still experience frequent lock ups and crashes when gaming on Vista with my SLI 8800 Ultra cards, and while less frequently still have crashes running a single card as well.

Mr. PR Guy looked me right in the eye and said, Vista is far from stabile as a gaming platform. This comment left me with the impression that the delay in Crysis coming to market had more to do with Crytek waiting for stabile drivers, rather than tweaks of fixes needed in the game itself.

The map I was able to play was a large outdoor environment that reminded me a lot of Far Cry. Graphics including trees, water, people and vehicles were very realistic. It was very cool to be able to shoot the trees and watch them splinter and collapse. Game play was great, I just hope the game launches and Vista can be made stabile and some better drivers from NVIDIA show up about the same time.
