Is seems our portable phones are going to be getting better displays soon thanks to a new LCD driver chip from MagnaChip that is now shipping. MagnaChip announced today that they have begun shipping the new QVGA LTPS LCD Driver Chip to the world’s leading portable phone makers.
The new driver supports screen resolution of QVGA 240RGB x 320 and can display 16 million colors. The new chip also offers picture-in-picture capabilities and uses an EEPROM memory that improves picture quality.
Davis Mok, Vice President of Marketing in MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division, commented, "We decided to introduce this new LTPS product due to the growing market demand for video files and high resolution handsets. The newly released product is QVGA-equivalent, which is now one of the most widely used resolutions in the cell phone market today. As it targets high-end cell phone models, the driver IC supports 16 million colors as its default and provides interfaces that support GSM phones." Via MagnaChip
