We reported about the ultimate Star Wars R2-D2 replica last month. Nikko integrated a DVD player, SVGA LCD projector and iPod dock in the little cute Star Wars robot.

Now the first stores offer the limited edition R2-D2 DVD Projector. UK retailer Play.com has the ultimate R2-D2 available for pre-order at a hefty £1,999.99 (~$4,100).

Shipping date for Star Wars Nikko R2-D2 DVD Projector is September 1st. There are different claims on how many of these R2-D2s will be available. One source suggests that there are only 4,000 available for Europe. Another source says 15,000.

I have not found a store in the United States yet that list the Nikko R2-D2 DVD Player and Projector for pre-order. It will be interesting what the price will be state side.
The price is high, but you get a ton of technology crammed into the little android body. The integrated projector delivers an image up to 80 inches in size with a resolution of 800 x 600px. The brightness is 1,200 ANSI lumen and the contrast is 500:1. Update: The specifications for the projector have apparently improved. The projector is according to the Nikko R2-D2 site supporting XGA resolution, 1,500lumen brightness and 1,800:1 contrast ratio. The max. image size is 254 inch.

Integrated 20W stereo loudspeakers provide the sound for watching DVDs or listening to music stored on your iPod.

Other features of this R2-D2 include memory card slots, FM transmitter, R2-D2 sound effects, headphone stereo jack, VGA output, composite out and USB connector.

The measurements of the Star Wars R2-D2 DVD Projector are 13.5" x 13" x 20.5" and the weight is 8kg.

Everything is controlled via the bundled Falcon remote control.
