Anyone who has taken a class in Microbiology knows how cool it can be to look through a microscope and see things you don’t even know are there in your daily life. To see rally small things, like say atoms, you need a really powerful microscope.

A scanning electron microscope typically costs well over what the Phenom goes for at $85,000. That sounds like a lot, but I could certainly see colleges and wealthy high schools going for one.

The Phenom can magnify a specimen from 20x up to 20,000x with an image resolution of 2048x2048 pixels taken in about 30 seconds. The images taken are stored on a flash drive and can then be downloaded to a PC for more inspection. In addition to being the cheapest electron microscope, it is also the smallest at about the size of a large PC. Via OhGizmo!
