Here in Texas we tend to have mostly houses with brick, so there isn’t as much painting as there might be in other parts of the country. However, in the older neighborhoods from the turn of the century to the late 50’s early 60’s we do have lots of wooden houses that need painted frequently.
There is a new paint coming to market, at what is promised to be an affordable price that will work great in the hot Texas climate. This paint seems t be applied just like normal paint with the added benefit that it turns all the painted surfaces into solar power generating panels.
Of course other than being able to gather the solar power, you need to be able to store the power and use it. I have no idea what that point will require, some sort of generator and battery system at least I would think. The power moves through the cells via a nanotube.
Another use for this tech would be printing the solar gathering paint onto flexible plastic sheets. This would allow consumers to print their own solar panels from their computer to special printers. It would be cool someday if the battery on my car is dead to be able to print a solar panel from my computer and recharge it. Via Coolest-Gadgets
