Anyone who has driven a large van or SUV knows that seeing what is behind you can be a problem, especially when what’s behind you is close to the bumper. Sanyo has a new camera system called the Sanyo BC200 Rear View Backup Camera System intended to address this problem.
This tiny camera mounts on the bumper of your vehicle and uses advanced signal processing to produce natural looking images from a wide angle lens. That means that the typical fish-eye looking images you see on wide angle cameras are normal and natural looking with the Sanyo camera.
The system sells for $299.99 and is available now. This is actually less of a system and more of a camera and the required mounting gear. No display is included with the system, so you will have to provide your own. Sanyo thinks it will interface with existing in car displays. The problem it seems Sanyo didn’t consider is that many in car displays aren’t situated for viewing by the driver, but for viewing by back seat occupants. via Sanyo
