AMD announces that it is the first company that has past the VESA compatibility test for graphics chips supporting the new DisplayPort 1.1 standard.

AMD expects to ship the first ATI Radeon graphics processors with native DisplayPort interface in the early 2008 timeframe.

DisplayPort, aims to unify and standardize display across the desktop and notebook computing environments through a common high-bandwidth interconnect.
DisplayPort is an interface designed to be scalable and allow for true unification of display interfaces. DisplayPort supports both external connections, such as a display to a PC or TV, as well as embedded interface applications, such as inside a notebook PC.

Samsung just introduced the world's first DisplayPort LCD panel last week.

Looks like 2008 will be the launch year for DisplayPort products. Expect the CES 2008 be full of DisplayPort supporting devices.
