Along with the new G9 gaming mouse, Logitech also announced today an update to the G15 keyboard. The G15 still has the LCD screen that displays game data, but the LCD screen is no longer flip up, now it is molded into the keyboard and displays at all times.
One of the complaints of the original G15 was that the keyboard was too big for most desks. Logitech found that most gamers didn’t use all the macros that the G15 could handle, so the new G15 lost some macro abilities for the sake of a smaller design. The new G15 has six programmable keys with three shift modes for a total of 18 possible macros.
The palm rest is detachable and the dual USB 2.0 ports are still located on the rear of the keyboard. I was able to check the new G15 out at E3 this year, and it is significantly smaller. I am one of the gamers that doesn't use that many macros, so loosing some for a smaller footprint is a good deal for me. If you still want the old full size design and more macros, the G11 is still available. The new G15 will be available in September for $99.
