Fossil apprently canceled the Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA in its current version. A new more powerful and less expensive model is going to be designed and slated for release in mid 2004.
The official reason is now the 1" LCD display. Before it was the manufacturer Flextronics.
In an article on InfoWorld a Fossil Spokes Person says:
"We've had to make the hard decision over the past month to basically redesign the product," the spokesman said. "We're using this timeframe to further reduce costs and raise performance specifications so we can launch a more competitive product by the summer of 2004,".
The Article also says that people who ordered the Wrist PDA Watch at Amazon.com are taken care of. But what about the emotional damage of gadget fans getting all excited and even are able to buy the Wrist PDA and then are faced with the hard reality of Vaporware. Gizmodo.com writes its better than putting out a sub-standard product. We say do your QA before making a deal with Amazon.com. Last thing I want to say on the positive side, to put a Palm PDA in a Wrist Watch that looks not over-sized is a daring project and I applaud Fossil to keep on trying.
In the meantime Fossil gets some traction with the MSN Wrist Net Watches.
