Garmin introduced today a new entry-level navigation device called the nuvi 260. The 260 automatically calls out street names by saying “Turn left on main street” rather than simply saying turn right like some navigation systems.

"Many potential PND customers want an entry-level Garmin PND, and many realize the convenience and utility of a device that speaks an upcoming street name. The nuvi 260 is for them," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales. "The nuvi 200-series has established itself as the gold standard for simple yet solid navigation, and the nuvi 260 only reinforces that."

The navigator uses an internal GPS antenna, which makes it thinner and easier to mount in your vehicle. Like other navigation systems if you miss a turn in your route, the nuvi 260 recalculates automatically on-the-fly. The 260 comes pre-loaded with maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico along with six million points of interest. The nuvi 260 will be available in August for $499.99 including a vehicle suction cup mount, power cable and dashboard disk.
