Option announced today that their GlobeTrotter HSUPA device is the first HSUPA data card to get FCC approval for sale in the United States. Now that the card is approved for sale in the U.S. we should see it begin to trickle into mobile service providers product lists.
The HSUPA technology allows for increased upload and download speeds to enrich mobile broadband technology. The device uses the slim 34mm ExpressCard slot and is able to achieve peak HSDPA download speeds of 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA upload rates of near 2 Mbps.
These speeds are better than many broadband users get with DSL and cable web access in their homes. The card is also backwards compatible with HSDPA lower data rates like 3.6 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps upload speeds and it supports Tri-band UMTS for EDGE and GPRS networks.
