Researchers have developed a battery that is flexible like paper allowing it to be bent, twisted and trimmed with scissors to fit any shape needed. The battery is only a prototype at this point and was developed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

"We would like to scale this up to the point where you can imagine printing batteries like a newspaper. That would be the ultimate," Robert Linhardt a professor at the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at RPI said in a telephone interview.

Unlike traditional batteries with several pieces inside this battery is one piece and uses paper infused with an electrolyte and carbon nanotubes embedded in the paper. The research developed from two separate projects. The battery looks like paper with one white side and one black side. The draw back is that carbon nanotubes are very expensive.
