Verizon Wireless introduced today a new wireless USB modem called the AirCard 595U USB modem from Sierra Wireless. The new modem is for use on Verizon’s EVDO rev. A network and offers broadband speeds. The modem connects directly to computers via USB and can be connected via an included docking cradle as well.
Average download speeds using the 595U are 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps and upload speeds are from 500-800Kbps. The card has a removable lithium ion batter for extra power, which should mean the card doesn’t have to take up two USB ports.
An optional external antenna is available for improved reception. The 595U works on windows 2000, XP and Vista computers with a single Type A USB port. The modem is available now for $179.99 after a $50 mail in rebate.
