I-O Data in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a product recall today on power adapters used with some of their external hard drives. The power adapters can overheat or melt and have the potential to be a burn hazard.
About 740 power adapters are included in the voluntary recall that were imported by I-O Data Device USA Inc. of San Jose California. I-O Data says they have received three reports of these adapters overheating and deforming or melting.
At this time no injuries have been reported. The recall covers all AC adapters with model number IO-ACADP1510UL, which can be found on the back of the AC adapters. These adapters were sold with I-O Data network hard disk drive model numbers UHDL-160U or UHDL-300U. The drives were sold nationwide from December 2004 to February 2007 for between $300 and $400. I-O Data says consumers should stop using the adapters immediately and contact them for a free replacement at 1-877-878-2926.
