Mitsubishi has not yet released standard Blu-ray players on the consumer market, but is already working on a Blu-ray player that converts 2D movies into 3D experiences. Mitsubishi has been developing Blu-ray technology since day one, but I have not seen a product on the market yet.
Mitsubishi demonstrated a prototype to a couple of journalists this week. The 3D Blu-ray player solution requires special shutter glasses, but works via a standard DLP projector.
The company uses the 120Hz technology that DLP projectors support to split it into two 60Hz signals.
Mitsubishi said a 3D Blu-ray player would be available as early as 2008. I will believe it when I see one. Via Crave.
3D has not even established itself in cinemas yet. I like the experience a lot and hope somebody figures out a 3D solution that is affordable and not fatiguing.
Ultimately an auto stereo system is necessary for broad adoption. There have been 3D LCD monitors that work without glasses available for a while now.
