Nokia 500 Auto Navigation is More GPS than Cell Phone
Posted on Mon, 27 Aug 2007 13:41:25 CDT | by Shane McGlaun | Topic: Portable Devices
When you hear the name Nokia, portable phones come to mind rather than GPS devices, but with the new 500 Auto Navigation device that may change. The 500 looks just like the hoards of other in-car navigation devices on the market and it pretty much is.
The 500 has a high-sensitivity internal GPS antenna and uses Nokia Maps navigation software to provide turn-by-turn directions with street and city names. Regional maps that include information on points of interest in the area come pre-installed .
The device also features a Traffic Message Channel Service that allows you to get traffic information and avoid high traffic areas. In addition to GPS service, the 500 also has Bluetooth built in for connecting to your cell phone. The device is expected to be available in Europe in the 4th quarter for a price of EUR 300.
