S-LCD Corporation, a joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Sony Corporation announced the first LCD panels shipping from its 8th Generation Line.
S-LCD's 8th Generation Line is capable of processing the world's largest motherglass substrates, measuring 2,200mm by 2,500mm.
The focus of Sony and Samsung with the new 8th generation panels is the 50 inch LCD HDTV segment.
8th generation panels can be used for LCD HDTVs in the sizes of 46 and 52-inch.
The 8G LCD panel line will reach its full monthly output of 50,000 panels by the end of the year.
Entering the 50 inch panel range with affordable HDTVs will directly compete with the plasma manufacturers and get the price knob for large flatscreen TVs turning again. I say keep them coming!
Shop for 52 inch LCD HDTVs.
