Most GPS devices simply put route and location info over rendered drawings of the area. Bushnell has updated the features in the new ONIX200, ONIX200CR, and ONIX400 allowing access to DigitalGlobe satellite imagery.

The addition of the satellite images allows users of Bushnell GPS devices to get the normal GPS data we are used to seeing placed over the top of actual satellite images of the terrain they are navigating.

"We want to give our outdoor enthusiasts the best imagery available," said Joe Messner, CEO of Bushnell Outdoor Products. "DigitalGlobe has the highest-resolution imagery on the market, so they were the clear choice to power the imagery on our products."

The satellite images are not pre-loaded into the GPS device when you purchase it; you have to download them into the GPS handheld from Bushnell servers. The Bushnell website says you get four free downloads for registering your device. Credits to download maps or photos are $1 each, $20 for 25 credits or $79 for unlimited downloads for one year.
