Garmin Edge 705 and Edge 605 GPS Systems for Cyclists

Garmin has introduced a pair of new GPS systems for bicyclists that have all sorts of functions in addition to the GPS routing that will be welcome on long rides. Both the Edge 705 and Edge 605 GPS systems offer mapping capabilities and street navigation.

Both units have a 2.2” color display and track vertical profiles, climb, descent, altitude, speed, distance and time. The Edge 705 adds several notable features to the mix the 605 doesn’t offer.

The Edge 705 features SRM compatibility and wireless unit-to-unit capability for sharing routes and workout data with other 705 units nearby. SRM is a pioneer in bicycle diagnostics and uses their tech to monitor GPS position, power, heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude, and gradient on the same display. With an optional power meter the 705 can measure torque and cadence at the pedals for more accurate information. You can also get a read out of calories burned during your workout. Both units are expected to be available in December 2007 with the 705 selling for EUR 549.99 and the 605 going for EUR 399.99.
