Philips announced today that they will be launching their new Aurea HDTVs as IFA2007. Aurea is Philips’ update to their Ambilight technology, which worked pretty well. We reviewed a 50” Ambilight Plasma HDTV back in March and found it to work well.
The Aurea HDTVs will use the new LED-based Ambilight system as well as integrating discrete speakers and the Perfect Pixel HD Engine. Aurea TVs will be available in Europe next month.
There is no word on the availability of Aurea HDTVs here in the U.S. or any pricing information at this time. From the product photo here it appears that the new Ambilight technology glows on the front of the TV as well as the back of the TV like the old Ambilight system.
