German company Herpa plans to build a new Trabi, based on the legendary East German plastic car.
At the IAA 2007 next week in Frankfurt, Herpa will unveil the concept. The new Trabi would be based on the BMW 1 series, but feature an all plastic body painted in the signature sky blue color.
The price is targeted between 12,000 and 50,000 Euros (~$16,000 - $68,000) depending on features.
The first new Trabi cars are planned to go into sale in 2009.
I am not a fan of retro. The Mini is ok, but a new Trabi is really something the world does not need.
