E3 2004 Day 1 Summary
New Sony PSP Information from E3 2004


The E3 (Electronic Entertainment Exposition) is taking place May 12-14 in Los Angeles. 
The E3 show is always an event where announcements are made that actually are still quite in the future. Most of the new products are coming on the market in the following Christmas season. Several exciting announcements are already known to be made at the show.

Sony and Nintendo are expected to present their new portable Game Consoles or at least reveal more details. Sony already published several details about the PSP including product photos. The slick looking game console features a 16:9 LCD screen, 7.1 surround sound and tons of processing power. It uses two MIPS R4000 CPUs and with 128bit Bus running 333MHz. The PSP will use a 1.8GB universal multimedia Disc as media for games.
What is known so far about the Nintendo DS is very little. It will feature two three-inch LCD screens and two main processors. The storage media used is some kind of new thin memory cards. There are no product photos available yet. Supposedly the LCD screens are aligned vertical. 

Half-Life 2

It will be interesting to see if Infinium Labs' Phantom Box will be shown in action. At the CES 2004 they only showed to box but did not switch it on. The bad press Infinium labs is getting since they announced the Phantom Console is interesting. The Phantom was voted into the Vaporware Awards at Wired Magazine in 2003. On the other hand there is no such thing as bad press. Infinum labs raised two weeks ago 15 Mio. Dollars and hired Kevin Bachus as president and chief operating officer. Bachus has 20 years of gaming industry experience and was one of the founding member of the Xbox project team at Microsoft Corporation. The Phantom uses a broadband connection to deliver on-demand games, demos, upgrades, etc. On the game side the most anticipated game announcement should be Valve's Half-Life 2. The game was originally planned to hit shelves last Christmas, but a copy of some or all of the source-code showed up on the Internet in October and Valve canceled the launch. Two weeks ago Valve said the new launch date is some when this summer and more details will be announced at the E3. A big draw at the show will also be the already announced sequel to the mega successful Halo Game on the Xbox. Halo 2 will start selling in September. Already people talking about the E3 2005 where the Sony PS3, Microsoft XBox 2 and the Nintendo N5 are supposed to be introduced.
