Car startup Carbon Motors develops a new car tailored for law enforcement. The mean machine could be the new standard for cop cars.
Carbon Motors surveyed 400 law enforcement agencies to collect what policemen actually want from the ideal police car.
The current specifications of the Carbon Motors E7 include a 300hp Diesel/Bio Diesel engine, 0-60mph in 6.5s, 155mph top speed and 28 - 30 mpg fuel economy.
Law enforcement specific features include 75 mph rear impact crash capability, NIJ Level III-A (or better) ballistic protection (front doors and dash panel), Video and audio surveillance of rear passenger compartment, Nightvision compliant interior illumination, Integrated forward looking infrared system (FLIR) and hoseable rear passenger compartment.
Carbon Motors announced this month a partnership with Lotus Engineering to collaborate on the development of the E7. When the new police vehicle will actually be available has not been announced yet.
