Maybe the Samsung Matrix Phone was the reason for Samsung to take the number 2 spot. Some interesting statistics have been published on market share in mobile handsets.

Samsung says based on a report by Strategy Analytics, that it has sold 55.7 million handsets worth a total of US$11 billion in 2003. Compared with Motorola's US$10.9 billion, this puts them in the number two spot in terms of revenue, behind the untouchable Nokia, which sold phones worth US$30 billion.
Motorola is still number two in terms of number of phones sold with 75 million. Nokia has sold 179 million phones.
Samsung Electronics expects to sell 65 million handsets this year, according to the company.
