Shopping Tips

Notebooks are more popular with many users than desktop computers thanks to their mobility. One of my biggest problems with notebook computers is the inaccuracy of the touchpad’s used. To combat this problem, the first purchase after a new notebook for many users is a notebook mouse.

There are huge differences between a desktop mouse and a notebook mouse. You can find wired notebook mice though typically most users want a wireless mouse. There are also different types of wireless notebook mice including RF mice that use a transceiver in the USB port and Bluetooth mice. Some Bluetooth mice have transceivers and some are intended to be used with notebooks that have built-in Bluetooth. The notebook mice in this buyer’s guide are arranged in no particular order.

Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000

The Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is a very interesting and unique notebook mouse. The mouse includes a wireless transceiver that uses 2.4GHz technology to provide a wireless range of up to 30 feet. The transceiver also has 1GB of built-in flash storage so as long as you have your mouse and transceiver you have your flash drive. The mouse is rechargeable and uses a unique magnetically attaching charge cable that allows you to use the mouse and charge it at the same time. Accuracy is very good and the mouse is small enough to travel well. If your notebook has built-in Bluetooth, you can flip a switch on the bottom of the mouse and use it without the transceiver as a Bluetooth mouse. Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks

One of Logitech’s most recent notebook mice is the VX Nano. This is one of the best notebook mice around and has the smallest wireless transceiver you will find on a notebook mouse. The transceiver is so small that you never have to remove it from your notebook, you simply leave it plugged in and ready to go. Another nice feature of the mouse is the hyper-fast scroll wheel that makes scrolling long pages a breeze. Read our full review of the Logitech VX Nano here.

Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

If your notebook has built-in Bluetooth connectivity, you don’t need a mouse with a wireless transceiver. The Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is a Bluetooth only notebook mouse that doesn’t ship with a transceiver of any sort. This is great for notebooks with Bluetooth onboard since you don’t lose any USB ports on your notebook. Read our review of the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse here.
