The news about the launch date for the 40G Sony PS3 went over the Reuters ticker already earlier today. Now Sony also published the official press-release announcing the price-cut for the 80GB PS3 and the details on the 40GB PS3 for the U.S. market.
The 80GB Sony PS3 has now the lowered price to $499 instead of $599. It is not clear if that price includes the Motorstorm game.
The 40GB Sony PS3 comes bundled with the Spider-man 3 Blu-ray movie and has a price of $399.
The press-release does not mention the 60GB PS3 at all. The 60GB PS3 sells currently for $499.99. Unless it does not see a price-cut as well you should go for the 80GB Playstation 3 instead as it has the same price.
Jack Tretton, President and CEO of SCEA has this to say: "We're pleased to offer the consumer a lower price point without sacrificing the core technology components that make PS3 the most advanced high-definition entertainment system available. Every PS3 comes with a Blu-ray drive, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine and a built-in hard-drive.
This holiday season we'll be able to offer attractive retail pricing with a broad portfolio of outstanding games including Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, Haze and RockBand."
