Pinger has launched what it calls a revolutionary phone voice marketing service. The opt in Pinger service is a promotional tool for political candidates, artists, media companies or anyone else looking to connect with supporters.
Presidential Candidate John Edwards is using Pinger to communicate with voters in the New Hampshire and Iowa primaries. The service allows Edwards to record a voice mail message from any U.S. phone and it is then sent to all subscribed users on any other U.S. phone.
Pinger says the Edwards’ messages have a 25% forward rate. Pinger works with any HTML or Flash based website to collect opt in names from MySpace or other websites. I have to wonder if this might be the next wave of spam. Will we see out phone numbers hijacked for automated messages like this promoting services we never wanted or asked for?
