As reported earlier Google announced today the mobile phone platform Android and the Open Handset Alliance with 30 members.
It is not a big surprise that Microsoft and Apple are not supporting Google's mobile phone strategy. On the other hand Apple has partnered with Google on several applications for the iPhone. Android is Linux based and this might be the key for Linux to play a much bigger role on mobile phones soon.
There are several large handset makers amongst the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance including Motorola, HTC, LG, and Samsung.
Carriers like T-Mobile, Sprint, KDDI, and China Mobile have also joined the party.
See also the Open Handset Alliance site.
The Android SDK will be released on November 12th.
