The Future: Japanese Humanoid Partner Robots

The news are full with new robots announcements the last couple of weeks. Reason most like the upcoming Robodex 2004 Tradeshow on March 24th.
Japanese Nikkei Net reports about a new segment for robot applications they call Partner Robots. About 10 companies offer humaniod robots that actually support humans.
One of the manufacturer is Toyota that showed of their trumpet playing robot (see photo). The humanoid robot measures 1.2m in height and weighs 35kg played the trumpet while walking at a speed of 1.5km/h and moving its body to the music. Toyota wants to develop robots that fullfill practical uses in society, like supporting elderly.
