Sony, NXP to form JV for Mobile Phone Applications

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors and Japanese consumer
electronics maker Sony said on Wednesday they will set up a joint venture to
promote the use of contacless smart card applications for mobile phones.
NXP and Sony said in a statement the new company, called Moversa, will be based
in Vienna, Austria, and that it will enable consumers to use mobile phones for
services such as mobile payments and transport ticketing.
Moversa will have a nominal capitalization of 100,000 euros ($146,600) and a
total capitalization of $28 million and Sony and NXP will each hold 50 percent
of the company, they said.
