Home theater buffs who have complex installations in large rooms know that finding very long HDMI cables and running the HDMI cables over long distances gets hard and the cable can be very expensive. The new HXC5 from Tributaries can send a virtually lossless HDMI signal over CAT5 cable up to 50 meters or about 164 feet.
The system required a double run of CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 cable. The HXC5 does the rest of the work utilizing a balanced/unbalanced signal-processing unit with full HD signal integrity. The device supports resolutions up to 1080p and is HDMI 1.2 and HDCP compliant as well.
The source and end-source transmitters measure 5 x 5 x 1 inches and require 5V power supplies. The HXC5 is available now for $600.
