New WiMAX faster than 3G

We do not even have 3G deployed for real and here comes already a new technology that is faster than 3G for wireless data communication.
The WiMAX (802.16) standard is backed by Intel and Nokia amongst others. Compared to 3G WiMAX is 30 times faster and can cover a 10 times larger broadcast area. On top of that WiMAX radio spectrum can be free, and carriers need fewer base stations to operate it. It is believed that WiMAX will be available for Consumers in 2-3 years.
