Laptop Magazine has reviewed the Amazon Kindle eBook reader. Laptop says you wouldn’t recognize the device as an eBook reader out of its black leather cover. The large 800 x 600 resolution e-ink screen was easy for the reviewer to read in direct sun.
Laptop says that the page turning buttons are easy to reach and comfortable to use. However, the buttons were overly sensitive leading to turned pages by mistake. The screen lacks a backlight so in a dark room you will still read by lamp, as you do with an analog book.
Laptop says downloads are fast, the Stephen Colbert novel “I Am America (and so can you)” downloaded in 45 seconds during the review. The Kindle didn’t work so well for web browsing due to poor page formatting. The battery life was good with 5 days of use with wireless off. Laptop rated the Kindle 4 out of 5 stars.
